ABOUT
My interest in architecture was stirred in a high school drafting class. Although my college major was fine art I pursued my interests by taking more architecture classes. My first job after graduation was with an architectural firm in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California. I was hired primarily for my artistic abilities, but soon became an accomplished draftsman and developed my construction knowledge during my nine years of employment.
In 1974, I created Jerry Shaw & Co. in Visalia California, providing design, drafting and rendering services. During the ensuing years, I developed a respected reputation for innovative design. As a result, I have designed hundreds of custom homes, additions, remodels, multi-family and light commercial projects in California and six western states.
My years of experience have taught me to be a good listener and to be aware of the client’s budget. I have developed a talent that allows me to take the thoughts and needs of my client and turn them into functioning spaces. My artistic sense enables me to design with balance and proportions and present the design in a realistic presentation that clients can visualize. Innovative and creative design solutions are my passion; however, achieving these goals within the budget guidelines is my challenge. Critical design issues such as site and view orientation, traffic patterns, furniture placement, lighting design and sensitivity to the neighboring properties are foremost in my mind when I begin a design. A billiard table, baby grand piano or a dining table that will seat 12 can become a problem if not given consideration during the design phase.
Jerry Shaw Residential Design is now located on the Central Coast of California, where I continue to demonstrate my appreciation of all styles of architecture in my designs. I approach each new project large or small, Victorian or Contemporary with my artist’s enthusiasm for the first brush stroke on a blank canvas.
